Scene of the Blog Featuring . . . Me!

Scene of the Blog A while back I was approached by Cathy of Kittling: Books about a series of articles she was putting together to show others where bloggers work, are inspired, create, and in my case, procrastinate, sweat the small stuff, and struggle daily to keep my cat from cleaning off my desk her way.

You can’t blame her though. If I’m neglectful enough not to leave her a space to lie down in, she’ll make her own thank you very much.

Several changes have occurred since sending in those original photos. The most significant is that my laptop has been replaced by a home-built PC. I still have the former, but the latter is much more powerful and quick, thus allowing me to do much more with my hobby of photography and in handling my ever expanding blogging habit.

Also, those walls are no longer bare. I have a calendar I had put together using my favorite photos, and there is a bulletin/white board combo hung opposite my chair. In that way, I can keep better track of my To-Do lists.

I must thank Cathy for her unbelievably generous compliments and efforts in not only sharing about my blog, but of others. From what I’ve seen, it is a great success in helping to build a cohesive community amongst those of us who love this great social network called blogging.

To anyone reading this who is thinks they have to have the appropriate resources, Cathy says something that should belay that concern:

Most bloggers don’t have the luxury of custom-made spaces worthy of an Architectural Digest photo shoot. Normally it’s about finding an unused corner and dragging a few pieces of furniture into it. It’s all about making those spaces work for us because they not only have to be functional, they also have to give us that creative space we need for blogging.

It’s good to have space to do what you love, be it a hobby or work. But the most important space you must pay attention to is the one in your heart that inspires you to do whatever it is wherever you can while never losing the passion you have in doing it.

Hmm. I’ve re-read that several times and even though it is not a well-crafted statement, it is a well-intentioned one.

In addition to Cathy’s glowing assessment of my space, she asked a question that must be answered:

By now everyone knows me, J.C., so just picture all these heads shaking back and forth and a few eyes rolling when I ask…what is that on the back of your chair?

“That” is a buckwheat husk pillow with lavender. The interior part that holds those husks can be microwaved. After it reaches the right temperature, I sling it around my neck so I am provided with a soothing mixture of warmth, weight, and scent. It helps keep the dreaded neck-kinks at bay.

Of course someone has other ideas on where to keep it when not in use. As she would prefer to be my neck warmer.IMG_0089wb Thank goodness she has taken to the back of someone else’s chair, although I know that look on her face all too well. Invasion is imminent!

This has been a great experience in sharing with you a little more about me, and I’d like to thank Cathy for this opportunity.

Next week, The “Scene of the Blog” is taking a break in honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week, but will be taking a peek at another book blogger’s creative space Wednesday, September 23.

I encourage you to visit Cathy’s blog and go through the archives. Please don’t hate me if you find yourself adding even more blogs to your reader.

But what is enrichment if we do not surround ourselves by others with different ideas and opinions?

  1. Hi J. C., Amy here. I read ‘Scene of the Blog Featuring….You” over at Cathy’s Kittling:Books So I came to say hi! I adore your desk. I’m a short…very short person and it looks like an especially nice desk for short people! You chair looks quite comfortable. And even better now is the beautiful kitty I just saw in a picture, with very white booties straddling the back of your chair! I love the position the cat is in on the chair, funny the spots they find comfortable!
