It’s been a wonderful day of reading, snacking, watching/listening to the hockey playoffs and planning a BBQ for dinner. Can’t get any better than this. Don’t you think? Continue reading

Not too long ago, Top Ten Tuesday asked a great question: Which books would you play hooky with when given the chance? For my criteria, I decided on stories that would grab me immediately, have characters I care about, and have a setting that is so fantastical, I forget about the stresses I’m trying to avoid. I want my disbelief suspended in a way that every minute I spend away from reality is well worth the effort. Continue reading

If disaster was imminent, what books would you grab? I’d just sooner cut off an arm than leave any of my books behind, however sometimes hard choices have to be made as my home library is well over the one thousand mark — so carting off all of them is extremely unrealistic. Here are my choices. Continue reading

A few of my challenges are actually projects as they are long term and/or perpetual. However, I have a couple of favorites that I’ve tried nearly every year I’ve blogged, so those are the ones I’m going to try and complete this year. Continue reading

If there are times you need to be taken away from it all, forget the bath salts and pick up one of these books. These are the books that kept the world at bay, even for just a little bit. Continue reading

I have to admit, there’s a challenge to finding enjoyable non-fiction that can compete with the storytelling of gifted fiction writers. But now that I have co-workers knowledgeable about its contents and bloggers I follow who’ve had some great recommendations, I’ve found it easier to sift through and find some real gems. Continue reading

To some, I may be taking this too far, and in a way, I think I am. But when I look at the number of books I’ve acquired, and knowing I will be getting more, I feel compelled to do something to try and keep it manageable. Continue reading

Still reading, reading, reading, but the blogging muse is apparently still on Spring Break. Until such time as she comes dragging her whimsical, inspiring butt back home, I thought I’d take a stab at this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. This week it’s Top Ten Bookish Peeves. Here are just a few of mine.

The first week has been one of re-discovery, or more like discovery. This is not like any other of Steinbeck’s work. I never came away before with the impressions I have gotten while reading this, a novel even he said was his best. Continue reading
